Excerpts From The Forum

The Name

It's interesting that looking for a name for the society got a substantial piece of this forum's give and take. Will the new society's name include civic journalism, public journalism, communitarian journalism, community journalism or will any of these more specific names work: Public Journalism Society, Civic Journalism Society, Society for Public Journalism, Society of Civic Journalism, Responsible Journalism, Journalism and Democracy, Civic Reporters and Editors, Civic Journalism Venture Group, International Association of Public Journalism, Just Good Journalism Group, International Forum on Civic Journalism, World Society for Public Journalism, Global Forum on Public Journalism, Global Society for Thoughtful Journalism?

Here is some advice if we become an international society. It comes from Ana María Miralles who likes the International Association of Public Journalism: IAPJ." I strongly recommend the word INTERNATIONAL since outside the USA public journalism has been growing a lot. And why PUBLIC and not CIVIC journalism? Just because if we want a real international association PUBLIC is better than CIVIC. The word Civic has another connotation outside the USA. Instead, PUBLIC means what it means almost everywhere."
